NEW DELHI, May 5, 2012: The DLF Indian Premier League 2012 leader Delhi Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag launched the first few issues of the Diamond-Daredevils Comics Series, featuring Diamond Comics characters and Delhi Daredevils team, at a pleasant function here today.
Famous character Chacha Chaudhary his aide Sabu, have been portrayed as being part of the Delhi Daredevils squad in the new series, whose creator Pran said Sehwag's mind work fast like his main character. When Sehwag was asked who Sabu was in his team, the skipper said “It's (Kevin) Pietersen! Sabu to thha par chala gaya (Sabu was around but he has gone).”
GMR Sports’ Head (Marketing) Hemant Dua said this was another step towards connecting with the Delhi Daredevils fans not just during the IPL season but through the year. “We are pleased that we will be able strengthen our bond with all those who love the Delhi Daredevils as a team and its players as individuals,” he said.
“We are thankful to Bradford License India team, headed by Director Gaurav Marya and Ms. Vice President Chitra Johri, which has helped the Delhi Daredevils come together with Diamond Comics. BLI would represent this joint IP for further licensing in the field of digital, consumer products and marketing alliances,” he said.
Diamond Comics Managing Director Gulshan Rai said it was exciting to launch a new series featuring the Delhi Daredevils. “We have been entertaining people by creating comics for over four decades and it always exciting to be able to introduce new characters to the readers,” he said.
Pran, who is the creator of innumerable Diamond Comics characters like Chacha Chaudhary, Billoo, Shrimatiji, Pinki, Lucky, said: “It is nice to be able to bring some of these characters together with the Delhi Daredevils cricketers, who are all household names. I am sure the readers, young and old, will love the Diamond Daredevils Series.”
Loyal Software Pvt. Ltd. would help make the comics available on all technology platforms. “We have offered complete Digital Rights Management services to Diamond Comics so that these could reach the now generation of children across many platforms used by a majority of today's children – PCs to Mobiles to Tabs,” said. This special series shall be launched as full comics with all characters of Diamond Comics that have always been a craze with children for the past 40 years. Their combination with Delhi Daredevils is bound to catch the eye of the present generation of children who follow Delhi Daredevils in particular and cricket in general.
